Hello there! I have two sweet little boys who are on my mind all day long, a darling husband who also happens to be my web designer, and a successful career which utilizes my mechanical engineer degree and background in energy. All of these are things which I love. Anyone who knows me will also tell you how much I love anything health and fitness related. I’ve come a long way though….
My weight loss adventures began back in the days of high school where I knew nothing about calories in versus calories out. I was quite overweight and can recall when I would reward myself for a mediocre workout with an unhealthy snack. Then I went on to college where I chose the severe calorie cutting method. I was hungry for a majority of my days since the animal crackers and pretzels that I snacked on didn’t quite satisfy me. This was the first time in my life where I was actually losing weight and getting compliments. I was motivated to keep going but I didn’t enjoy how my body felt. Upon graduation, I focused on learning as much as I could about healthy eating and exercise.
I got engaged to my charming engineering study buddy and we got married in 2008. Before the wedding, I probably exercised more than necessary because I wanted to look my best for the big day. Years later, during both of my pregnancies, I focused on eating to nourish my body and the life I was carrying but the nausea made this slightly difficult.
I am confident that right now, today, is the best place I’ve been in my life as far as my overall health. I eat when I’m hungry but I choose foods that fuel and nourish my body. I have a career and a family that I adore and I am able to incorporate healthy eating and exercise into my daily life. I strive to not take time away from my children to get a workout in (which leads to early morning or naptime workouts) but I let my health priorities be extremely visible to them (their favorite foods include cottage cheese, tomatoes, and avocados).
I enjoy helping others transform their lifestyles into healthier and more balanced ones without the use of fad diets. I believe that eating and moving in ways that are sustainable for the long-term are key to being able to lose weight and keep it off for good. I also have a strong passion for motivating and empowering girls and women in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). We females have so much to offer in terms of our opinions, intelligence, and strengths that we need to support each other in making a difference in the world.
Join me as I document how I juggle it all while maintaining a happy family life, work balance and healthy lifestyle (some days I surprise myself). Chances are I will probably have a latte in my hand.
